Crabs wearing hats

In the lower reaches of the beaches of Campbell River, the most common crabs are the brown or olive green kelp crabs. On this latest visit, I noticed something I don't remember seeing before. Most of the kelp crabs were wearing fragments of sea lettuce, but only on their heads.

Dressed for a party

Floppy sun hat version.

Very tiny, very stylish.

Do crabs have fashion designers? Or ad agencies?

  1. maybe they are more like toddlers, who think they are hidden when only their head is covered?

  2. And a big sheet of sea lettuce to cover the whole critter is just too much bother?

I'm having to moderate all comments because Blogger seems to have a problem notifying me. Sorry about that. I will review them several times daily, though, until this issue is fixed.

Also, I have word verification on, because I found out that not only do I get spam without it, but it gets passed on to anyone commenting in that thread. Not cool!
